New Zealand-born artist Opiuo has unveiled his much anticipated new eight-track Syzygy 02 project, out November 8th. The follow up to critically acclaimed EP Syzygy 01, the new project features 8 original tracks comprised of the signature and ever evolving Opiuo sound.
Currently sitting at over 26 million Spotify streams, Opiuo is known to experiment with new sounds, equally parts bass, glitch, and funk, leading the pack as a founder of a new signature sound. Syzygy 02 brings the listener on a journey from beginning to end, from electric chordal harmony to gurgling growling bending bass. The project offers a world of endless possibilities, equal parts playful, intoxicating, and a bit hallucinogenic.
The project opens with the synth-led ‘Kaleidoscope’, a track that was released as a single earlier in the year. “One of my absolute favorite items in life is a kaleidoscope. It’s full of color, never the same, always morphing layers upon layers of spinning swirling shapes and vibrant light,” Opiuo previously explained. ‘Kaleidoscope’ was accompanied by the mind bending visuals of artist Dr. D Foothead, a psychedelic explosion of color and texture.
Latest single ‘System Empire’, a trailblazing collaboration with vocalist Texture Like Sun, also features on the project, as does ‘Send It’, a dance/hip-hop crossover track with West Coast rapper Lafa Taylor. A typically experimental release that dips into a number of different styles and genres, Szygy 02 is Opiuo’s most complete body of work yet.
Opiuo’s artistic endeavors have brought him recognition from around the world and put him on some of the most iconic stages throughout the globe including Lollapalooza, Lightning In A Bottle, Electric Forest, and Paradiso. Opiuo has achieved #1 spots on iTunes and Beatport and in the past has collaborated / toured with Bassnectar, Pretty Lights, STS9, GRiZ, Clozee, and more.
Opiuo is currently on tour across North American with Gramatik, offering a brand new live show full of never before heard live renditions of the new project.
