Grandtheft Enlists MAX for New Single ‘Square One’ on Lowly Palace + Announces World Tour
Toronto-based producer Grandtheft and R&B vocalist/ one half of Party Pupils, MAX are releasing their eclectic co-written single, “Square One” with Lowly Palace. Grandtheft’s debut on Trap Nation’s Lowly Palace imprint comes at an incredible, industry-altering time, as the label continues efforts to disrupt traditional labels by showcasing and supporting both global and underground talent. Adhering to the dynamic stylings that made him a household name, Grandtheft’s newest single is both familiar, yet signature, solidifying his legacy in the rapidly evolving music scene.
“Square One is at once about disappointment and coming to terms with an ending, but also restarting with strength and self-awareness. It’s masculine but compassionate. There is a fall/winter mood to it – the bittersweet quality of the song mirrors wanting keep yourself warm in the face of increasingly cold weather. I find it reassuring because everyone feels like that when they have to through a tough or new experience – and we had a lot of fun writing it.” -Grandtheft
This modern day R&B visionary was an interesting choice for the heavy-hitting Grandtheft. But nevertheless this conundrum results in a genre-blending, eclectic track that pushes boundaries and raises standards. Contemporary music, whether it be EDM, indie-rock, or heavy mental is frequently being challenged and inspired by it’s counterpart. “Square One” is intimate, yet bold, radiating and repeating a charming, sharp constant- the bottom layer beat. The track dives up, down and expels a perfect kind of chaos that challenges what electronic R&B should sound like.
Grandtheft:
With the hugely successful release of “Easy Go” which was released via Diplo’s label “Mad Decent,” and broke the top 40 on US radio, Grandtheft is no stranger to the big leagues. This Toronto hustler is drawn to the heavy magnitude of the 808- dexterous in bass-saturated bangers. His original song “Keep it 100” with Keys N Krates won the Best EDM Dance Video MMVA, and was simultaneously featured in the ‘Minions’ movie trailer. His resonance is expanding from coast as he continues fossilizing his legacy in the electronic music community.
MAX:
MAX is a Manhattan player who has a self-proclaimed genre(s) of pop, soulful acoustic, and hip-hop. His current single “Lights Down Low,” off his album “Hell’s Kitchen Angel,” has over 95M streams on Spotify, 200M across all platforms, and recently debuted on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, top 20 at Pop Radio and top 20 at Hot AC.
