Nite Mrkt’s ‘Prefrontal’ is the sonic equivalent of dancing under storming clouds. The Brooklyn based artist uses bleary synths and thumping rhythms to make colorful soundscapes reminiscent of Apex Twin’s, washing away any thought or worry through pure electronic noise. The track feels somewhat soothing, while still using driving motion in the underlying texture to give it a distinct edge. Nite Mrkt self-produces and records all of his tracks at an extremely impressive level of quality that sounds completely radio-ready. If you seek a danceable house track that’s fit for nearly anyone’s palate, ‘Prefrontal’ is your song.

“I was a heavy drinker until I finally quit last year. My life was slipping out of control and everything was a blur. Many days and nights went missing and friends were growing concerned.

After I quit drinking, I realized I had a ton of free time and new energy, but a lot of the anxiety and depression I’d been suppressing also came rushing forward. So this time, instead of numbing it, I turned it into music.

That’s why my music sounds subtle, yet simultaneously overwhelming – because it’s a reflection of how my mind works. I wanted to paint a picture, as purely as I could, of how I feel and perceive the world through music. It’s also why the song is called “Prefrontal” – in reference to the Prefrontal Cortex of the brain – the origin of these surreal, constant thoughts and sound ideas. The Prefrontal Cortex is also sensitive to and damaged by alcohol, which makes me anxious, but also motivates me to continue to be my best self and produce music.”
