Australian Electro Pop-Rap Duo China Roses Releases Single ‘Piedaterres’
Adelaide pop-rap duo China Roses have dropped their latest single with a sound ever so familiar to that of fellow Radelaidian Allday and Brissy artist Mallrat.
‘Piedaterres’ is an uplifting track inspired by love and appreciation for those in your life who believe in the artistry you’re creating.
“It’s written around the theme of surrounding yourself with people that believe in you, and encourage you to fulfil your potential. It also mentions reacting to success in a humble manner and taking the time to appreciate those who helped you get to where you are,” China Roses said.
Rapper/vocalist Jessica Fisher wrote this song in the very early stages of the China Roses project. Other half of the duo, producer Pietro Filippone knew it was, and still is, some of the best work she has written.
Filippone was actually in Lebanon without Internet when Fisher sent over the tracks. Trying to distinguish their sound proved to be a challenge at first, but a series of fluke accidents led them down the right path.
“When I got back, I tried writing some music to match the lyrics but everything I wrote didn’t seem to capture the feeling of Jess’s vocals. I wrote about three or four different songs before I came to the result we’ve released.
“I remember I was about five minutes into writing the piano chords for this track when I hit save on my session and accidentally overwrote the previous version I had worked on. It must’ve been a blessing in disguise because it forced me to start from scratch and finish the track,” Filippone said.
There’s a really nice balance between the playful synth rhythms and moody undertones of thick basslines. This kind of sound is definitely on trend and a great step forward for the Aussie rap scene.
