Empire Of The Sun returns with a new EP, On Our Way Home, which contains the band’s first new music in nearly a year. The alt-electro pioneers have also released stunning videos to accompany two of the tracks.
“We are back and we come with a labor of love and the might of our two hearts. We bring On Our Way Home to you humbly with our hats and helmets in our hands,” says Nick Littlemore, who founded Empire of the Sun with Luke Steele in 2008.
“On Our Way Home,” the heretofore unreleased title track, was recorded during sessions for the band’s 2016 album, Two Vines, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart. The song was recently tapped for a major television ad for Citroën, which has aired in the U.K., France, Italy and Spain.
On Our Way Home contains another new song, “Two Leaves,” which Littlemore describes as “straight from the forest,” plus the band’s original version of “Way To Go” (from Two Vines) alongside remixes by Japanese sensation Cornelius and Gomez and Tritter.
Littlemore and Steele found inspiration during a recent trip to Japan, as reflected in the EP’s cover art and the new video, “Way To Go,” which premiered yesterday on Pitchfork. Directed by Nobumichi Asai of WOW Productions, it utilizes innovative 3D scanning technology, motion and facial motion capture. View “Way To Go” HERE.
Luke Steele recalls, “We discovered Japanese director Nobumichi Asai’s work through a short film he had created called Kagami and all of his famous face projection mapping works. The colors and shapes he creates are mind-bending. with a certain digital romance to it all. Our unwavering confidence in his ability had us reaching out to him to marry his imagination with our music.”
