MARSHMELLO + BASTILLE Releases ‘HAPPIER’ Video
DJ/producer Marshmello and British band Bastille unveiled the new single “Happier.” By turns poignant and exhilarating, “Happier” (Astralwerks) acknowledges the uncomfortable truth that loving someone sometimes requires we step aside so they can find happiness. Bastille frontman Dan Smith penned the song with Steve Mac (Ed Sheeran, Liam Payne, P!nk).
“We wrote ‘Happier’ last year and thought it would be great as a collaboration,” explains Dan Smith. “We had a lot of fun working on it with Marshmello, who managed to find joy in the melancholy. It’s always good to step into somebody else’s world for a minute.”
Marshmello is re-defining today’s music industry, one hit after another. With the last year’s worth of chart-topping singles featuring collaborations with the likes of Selena Gomez, Migos, Khalid, Logic and more, the artist has clocked a staggering 2+ billion streams across Spotify alone with over 40 million monthly listeners, cementing him as the platform’s #4 Most Streamed Artist in the World. Marshmello has worked with all these artists with such a large following, that it would come as no surpise to find that anyone who would want to be on one of his track may use a app for followers to boost their Instagram follow count. You’d have to have some talent too, which would help. First impressions are key.
He continued his global takeover with the summer smash “FRIENDS” with Anne-Marie. Certified platinum in the US and UK and certified triple platinum in Canada, “FRIENDS” ranked #1 on both iTunes and Shazam’s worldwide charts, with over 500 million overall streams. The single climbed to #2 at Pop radio. 2017’s “Wolves” ft. Selena Gomez peaked at #1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart and #5 at Top 40 radio. The same year Marshmello released his hit “Silence” featuring Khalid, which is nominated for “Best Dance” at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards. Marshmello himself is ranked #4 overall on Billboard’s 2018 Dance List.
Most recently, Marshmello released his highly anticipated sophomore album Joytime II, which debuted at number 1 on Billboard’s top dance/electronic chart upon release last month. The album follows 2016’s Joytime which landed him in the Top 5 on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums, with his track “Alone” propelling his monumental success with over 110 million Spotify plays, over 20 million instagram followers and over 1 billion views on YouTube making it certified Platinum in only one year.
Bastille is fresh off the #1 Alternative radio hit “Quarter Past Midnight,” which is the band’s third single to top the Mediabase chart. Hailed by Rolling Stone as “Brit pop’s new crown princes,” Bastille was introduced internationally with the single “Pompeii,” which is now 6x Platinum in the U.S. alone. The band – comprising Dan Smith, keyboardist Kyle Simmons, bassist/guitarist Will Farquarson and drummer Chris Wood – has sold upwards of 15 million adjusted singles and six million adjusted albums. Cumulative streams across all platforms exceed three billion. Since winning British Breakthrough Act at the BRITs, Bastille has earned GRAMMY®, AMA and MTV Europe Awards nominations. The band’s “World Gone Mad” was the lead single from the soundtrack for the 2017 Netflix film Bright. Starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton, the film is one of the site’s most streamed programs ever.
Established in New York City and now finding its new home in the historic Capitol Records Tower in Los Angeles, Astralwerks was the brainchild of staffers at Caroline Records who saw an opportunity for a label focused on the emerging electronic and ambient scene. Having reached a milestone of 25 years, Astralwerks has quickly become a modern, artist-first label with a true focus on nurturing talent across the electronic genre and beyond. Acting with a scalable, independent and global thinking mentality with the capability to tap into the resources of a major label, has allowed Astralwerks to retain and sign up-and-coming artists such as I Illenium, Jonas Blue, Alison Wonderland, EDEN, Sigma and Axwell /\ Ingrosso. As a testament to this pioneering approach, Astralwerks has amassed 30 GRAMMY® nominations, taken home six GRAMMY Awards and had historic releases from the likes of The Chemical Brothers, Swedish House Mafia, Halsey, Porter Robinson, Phoenix, Eric Prydz, Fatboy Slim and many more.
