graves Drops Lead Single ‘I’m Fine’ from Forthcoming Sophomore EP
Primed to take the next step in his career, Honolulu-born producer graves is releasing “I’m Fine,” the lead single from his forthcoming sophomore EP. “I’m Fine” featuring EZI is out now via Alpha Pup Records.
“I’m Fine” represents graves’ most emotional and telling work to date, and is the culmination of over a year of steady work in the studio. “I’m Fine” accurately captures the human condition, and the way humans will trick themselves and others into thinking everything is alright, even in times of substantial pain and darkness. Pain is part of human nature, and faking it is the biological reaction we project around others to make them think we’re doing just fine. graves channels those emotions into an expressive and energetic ballad, and in doing so helps to shine a light to those currently experiencing that darkness, letting them know they’re not alone.
“This project is a reflection of my spirit, my mental, and my emotional frameworks. It was so inspiring to work with so many talented people who are as sad and fucked up as I am along the way, and I’m so grateful to be able to share it with everyone soon. I pour everything into these records, and I hope it creates a place for listeners that they can sink into.” – graves
Most recently, graves earned a slot on What So Not’s Not All the Beautiful Things remix album, putting his spin on “If You Only Knew” featuring San Holo and Daniel Johns. graves is approaching 2019 with huge plans for the first quarter of the year, and “I’m Fine” is just the first act in the next chapter of his solo career. He also has a collaboration with RL Grime which premiered as the coveted last track of RL’s renowned Halloween VII mix, and though it has not yet received an officially release, it’s causing quite the buzz online and at their respective live shows.
Since turning his attention to the project full time in 2015, graves has steadily gained notoriety and respect from his peers. Several well received releases in 2015 and early 2016 led to being championed by the likes of Diplo, RL Grime, Skrillex, and Porter Robinson. This opened the door for subsequent collaborations with well established trap producers including Flosstradamus and Boombox Cartel. His 2016 collaboration “Came Up” alongside Flosstradamus, Post Malone, FKi 1st and KEY has amassed over 34 million plays on Spotify and received its own remix EP, while “Hilo” with Boombox Cartel became the title track for the debut graves EP in 2017.
Born Christian Mochizuki in Honolulu, Hawaii, graves achieved his first taste of in success in music at the highest level, and in the most unlikely fashion. After a year running errands and doing other medial work for West and his crew, Mochizuki found his way into the studio as an assistant audio engineer, ultimately becoming a full time engineer on the project.
