Shawn Wasabi Commissions Hip-Hop Heavyweight Guapdad 4000 For Remix of ‘HALO HALO’
pop sensation and electronic producer Shawn Wasabi released the first remix off his critically acclaimed debut album MANGOTALE, teaming up with the eccentric Oakland-based rapper, singer and songwriter Guapdad 4000. Putting his effortlessly catchy spin on Wasabi’s hit single “HALO HALO ft. Chevy,” Guapdad adds an extra edgy flare to the original’s sweet and flavorful beat. The track title offers a nod to the classic Filipino dessert that Wasabi grew up with, perfectly timed to release during Filipino American History Month in honor of Shawn and Guapdad’s shared heritage.
Shawn shares: “Nothing could be sweeter than collaborating with Guapdad 4000 and Chevy on this cool ass song. Plus October is a Filipino American Heritage Month so it gives even more reason to celebrate!”
Guapdad 4000 adds: “As a super Stan of both people named Shawn and Wasabi as a delicious paste derived from a root, I was ecstatic beyond mortal comprehension when I heard the song and I knew it was perfect for me!”
Guapdad 4000 rose from Oakland, CA as a rapper, singer, and songwriter, admired for his larger than life personality and charismatic style. The TWNSHP Records artist released his debut album Dior Deposits in October 2019, and has since been making waves with impactful collabs like his recent remix of Thundercat’s “Dragonball Durag,” along with his fully-fledged internet personality that keeps him on the verge of virality.
While he first started as a bedroom beat-making YouTube personality, Shawn Wasabi has grown into a globally recognized producer and esteemed performer, known for finding music and creativity in everyday items. In May of 2020, Shawn released his highly-anticipated full-length project, MANGOTALE on Facet/Warner Records, a 12-track studio album star-studded with entirely female collaborators. Quarantine has found Shawn broadening his skills even more, as seen in his most recent music video for “MEDICINE ft. Tia Scola,” for which he dedicated his time to self-teaching and perfecting the art of CGI animation.
