PREMIERE: DAMYN Releases Dark Industrial Pop Single ‘On A Dancefloor’

Los Angeles recording artist DAMYN returns with amazing new single ‘On A Dance Floor’. His unique sound utilizes genres spanning electronica to rock to jazz, takes influence from artists including pop stars and classical composers, and is informed by an in depth study of music that has earned him a Masters in Composition.  DAMYN is set to deliver his debut album in the summer of 2018.

“On a Dance Floor is a self-contradictory track about self-contradiction. It’s a dance pop track about serious and dark subject matter. It deals with issues of unsustainability, on a personal and societal level. It’s about being aware of those issues, participating in them, and trying to distract oneself from them and just escape it all on a dance floor.

My strategy for expressing this in the music was to start with the feel of a normal dance pop track, roughly in the style of Lady Gaga, and then disrupt that with harsh industrial sounds and dissonant jazz harmonies. So, the escapism is only ever half-way successful. Even with that being the case, I think it’s a fun track! Fun and dark. Frivolous and serious. A self-contradictory track about self-contradiction.” -DAMYN

LYRICS:

On a Dance Floor

On a dance floor, I can feel
Nerves pounding, yet I don’t have to be real
I’ve been bleeding my Spirit dry
But now I’m sure I’ve got the reason why

With my sense flooded it’s justified
Yeah, now I know I got the reason why
With my senses flooded it’s justified
‘Cause I know, I know, I…

I know we couldn’t be
On a sinking ship, having another drink
I know we’re in the clear
Won’t be taken in by no alarmist fear
I can’t believe in more than this
I can’t believe in more than this
I can’t believe in more than this right now

On a dance floor I am one
With the purpose, I am the chosen son
Who’ll inherit all we’ve achieved
This is my religion, I truly believe

This party won’t stop ’til it’s given me
This is my religion, I truly believe
This party won’t stop ’til you give it to me
What I came for

I know we couldn’t be
On a sinking ship, having another drink
I know we’re in the clear
Won’t be taken in by no alarmist fear
I can’t believe in more than this
I can’t believe in more than this
I can’t believe in more than this right now

I know, I know, I, I know, I know, I…

I know we couldn’t be
On a sinking ship, just having our last drink
I know we’re in the clear
Won’t be taken in by no alarmist fear
I can’t believe in more than this
I can’t believe in more than this
I can’t believe in more than this
I can’t believe in more than this right now
