Following on from previous smashes ‘Give ‘n’ Take’ and ‘Love The Lie’, Call Me Loop has unveiled the stunning new video for latest single ‘Cut & Run’.
The warmly lit visuals accent female empowerment instead of focusing upon the negative aspects of a breakup, following three different sets of narratives through to the ultimate conclusion that “sis, you don’t have to change for anyone”.
Call Me Loop comments “whilst the lyrical content of Cut & Run is very specific about my own break-up story, my creative director and I decided that instead of going for the obvious revenge narrative we wanted to explore other women’s stories as well as my own, and focus on a message of empowerment that challenges that default emotion that so many of us feel when we’re broken up with that it’s due to our own shortcomings… Sometimes it’s just cos these idiots can’t see a good thing when it’s right in front of them”.
Creative director Misha Meghna also notes “all the stories used have been real life experiences that my friends have been through. For example, women are often made to feel like a bitch if they have a voice, but society has especially pinned Black women as ‘aggressive’. Which is then taken on by the men who are sensitive every time a woman has something to say. Being a Pop artist, Call Me Loop could have gone down the route of creating a dance video or the ‘revenge’ story, but she was totally on board with making that creative decision to show empowerment, coming out on top and bringing women together. The more and more we grow as women supporting each other we realise we don’t need to change for anyone. The right person will always accept you as you are and help you grow rather than change”.
